How To Stand Out From The Other Job Seekers

How To Stand Out From The Other Job Seekers Facebook2TweetLinkedInPinEmailShares2 When it comes to job hunting, its very safe to stick to the basics; standard CV templates, generic cover letters, physical portfolios and more. But keeping it safe doesnt always get you noticed. In order to stand out from the others, its sometimes worth doing something a little out of the ordinary. Of course, this isnt always advised but sometimes, a little originality can give your application that extra boost! Think outside the box It all depends on the type of job you are applying for and the company culture. Some companies will really enjoy the fact that youve attached your CV to a chocolate bar or you went out of your way to deliver it In order to get a good feel of the company and their values, have a look at their website, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Hopefully, their social media profiles will provide an insight into their behind-the-scenes company culture. Even just reading their About Us section and the tone of voice that is portrayed can help you make a good judgement. If they brand themselves as a fun, creative company then perhaps the doughnut idea might just work. Its best to make a good judgement before potentially humiliating yourself to your desired employer. If its a digital marketing or a videography role you are applying for, send a video along with your application telling them how much you want the job.  Using your initiative and presenting things differently could be the key ingredient to getting an interview. Less is more You may want to add a little creativity to your CV Keep your employment history in chronological  order and include the important sections such as hobbies, education etc. If you do end up designing your own creative CV make sure you have a standard CV available too, just in case they request it. Remember to stick to the usual rules when it comes to including photographs and age leave them off!   Lots of companies are starting to use  Applicant tracking systems so make sure you dont get too carried away with the design and you still include the relevant  keywords and skills.   Show  yourself off If you have a digital portfolio or a website, dont copy and paste the URL onto a paper copy of your CV thats no use to anyone! Email a digital version straight to the employer or hiring manager. On your paper copy, state  that you have sent a Digital CV to them. That way, if they want to check out your portfolio, they can with ease. The employer will see how proactive you are Whatever the role is that you are applying for, send along some of your work to show off your skills. Lastly, dont be afraid to be you!  Dont put together a CV that doesnt reflect any aspect of your personality. Recruiters and hiring managers want to know what you are like as a person as well as a candidate. Remember!  Even if your application was pretty cool and you are excited to hear back, leave the chasing to them! Its their job to inform you about the status of your application so  try your best to remain patient!
